⚾ Monarchs win in extras, sweep Colby

COLBY – The TMP-Marian baseball team exploded for nine runs in the top of the 10th inning to beat Colby 10-1 in game one of their doubleheader Tuesday. They rally from a 5-0 deficit to win the second game 12-5 to move to 4-0 on the season.

TMP-Marian will host Holcomb Friday in their homer opener beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Game 1: TMP-Marian 10, Colby 1 (10 innings)
TMP-Marian blew the pitcher’s duel open with nine runs in the top of the 10th inning. Logan Baalmann opened the inning with a single and scored what proved to be the winning run on a Caden Dinkel single. The Monarchs plated their third run on an error. Nash Dreiling, Carson Liles, Baalmann, Ty Schmiedler and Jacob Seib all had RBI singles.

Colby scored in the third and led 1-0 until the seventh when the Monarchs on Dinkel’s two-out single to center. Carson Liles pitched the final two innings in relief and picked up the win. Starter Ty Schmeidler struck out eight and walked one allowing one run on three hits over eight innings.

Dinkel went 3-for-5 at the plate and drove in two runs.

Game 2: TMP-Marian 12, Colby 5
Colby scored five in the third, but the Monarchs battled back with two in the fourth and three in the fifth. They took the lead in the sixth on a Jacob Seib sacrifice fly. TMP then blew the game open with six runs in the seventh.

Caden Dinkel doubled and drove in two runs in the seventh. Logan Baalmann and Seib added RBI doubles while Carson Liles and Trevor Fabrizius had run scoring singles.

Dinkel pitched the final three innings and picked up the win, allowing one hit with two strikeouts and a walk. Baalmann started and surrendered five runs (two earned) on three hits over the first two innings.

The Monarchs drew seven walks while striking out once.
