Ellis County Clerk
With the 2027 general election just weeks away, Ellis County Clerk Bobbi Dreiling is encouraging voters to plan and become familiar with their voting options before Election Day on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
Voters wishing to vote by mail may request an Advance Voting Ballot by Mail application by calling the Ellis County Clerk's Office at 785-628-9410 or stopping by the clerk's office at 718 Main Street, Hays. You can also fill an application out online at https://sos.ks.gov/forms/elections/AV1.pdf. Advance mail ballots will be mailed beginning October 14, 2026. The last day to request an advance mail ballot is Tuesday, October 27.
Completed advance mail ballots may be returned by mail, delivered to the Ellis County Clerk's Office at 718 Main Street, dropped off at any polling location on Election Day, or deposited in the secure ballot drop box conveniently located in the alley behind the Ellis County Administrative Center at 718 Main Street.
Dreiling urges voters to get their ballot completed and mailed back as soon as possible.
The voter registration books close on October 13. This will be the last day you can register to vote for the general election. If you have moved or changed your name, you must re-register to vote.
Early in-person voting will be available at the Ellis County Clerk's Office during the following times:
· Monday, October 19 – Friday, October 30 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
· Saturday, October 31: 9:00 a.m. – Noon
· Monday, November 2: 8:00 a.m. – Noon
On Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, polling locations throughout Ellis County will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Anyone unsure of where to vote is encouraged to contact the Ellis County Clerk's Office.
This year's General Election ballot includes a Constitutional Amendment question.
Dreiling encourages voters to view their sample ballot, when available, online at https://myvoteinfo.voteks.org/VoterView or a sample ballot may be picked up at the Ellis County Clerk's Office.
While Dreiling is hoping to have them available sooner, as of now sample ballots will be available after October 9. She encourages everyone to keep checking Voter View or calling the office.
"Our goal is to make voting as convenient and accessible as possible while ensuring every eligible voter has the information they need before Election Day," said Dreiling. "Whether you choose to vote by mail, vote early, or vote at your polling place on November 3, I encourage everyone to review their ballot, verify their polling location, and make a plan to vote."
