Doris Ann (Bayer) White

Doris Ann (Bayer) White passed away January 12, 2021 at McKinney, Texas. She was born December 23, 1938 in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of Otto Carl Bayer and Ruth (Morrison) Bayer. She was baptized in 1945 in the First Christian Church. Doris married Frank C. White on April 3, 1960 in Great Bend. He died May 19, 2008.

Doris graduated from Great Bend High School in 1956 and from Adela Hale Business School in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1957. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Great Bend, Kansas, the Fossil Creek Community Church in Fort Worth, Texas, the Tuesday Morning Prayer Group, Great Bend Senior Center, the Watauga Senior Center, the Desk and Derrick Club and the WCTU. She led the LTL and their speech contests. She was a homemaker but previously had worked as an extra in Picnic in 1955, the credit clerk at Scheufler Supply Co. from 1958 to 1962 and as an interviewer at ASI from 1990-1995. She also sold Avon for 20 years. She helped raise funds for the American Heart Association, the Arthritis Foundation, the March of Dimes, the Lions Club, the High School and the Firefighters.

Doris enjoyed writing poetry, drawing, painting, teaching Sunday school, giving book reviews, and Bible lessons. She loved Jesus, her family, her friends, her church and her country. While their granddaughter Rachel Hannahruth White was missing for 3 years and 8 months, she and Frank diligently trusted God that she would be found. After Rachel was found in March 2007, at age 5 years, they helped raise her in their son's home in Fort Worth, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank C. White; her father, Otto Carl Bayer; her mother, Ruth Brough; her stepfather, Leroy Brough; her brothers, Carl Leon Bayer, and Teddy Rex Bayer; her stepbrother, Jimy Brough; and her stepsister Carly Meier. She is survived by her daughter, June A. White of Great Bend, Kansas; her son, Rodney J. White, and her granddaughter, Rachel Hannaruth White all of Fort Worth, Texas; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Bayer of Greely, Colorado; and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2021, at First Christian Church with Pastor Josh Leu presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to First Christian Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
