Nora Jean Hammerschmidt, 86, of Plainville, KS, passed away surrounded by loved ones, on May 11, 2025, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville.

She was born on December 5, 1938, in Hays, Kansas, to Phillip Sr. and Ludwina (Dinkel) Rohr. Nora grew up in Hays and married the love of her life, Ernest "Ernie" J. Hammerschmidt, on May 12, 1956. Together, they built a life full of hard work and cherished memories, raising six children: Roger, Gene, Cheryl, Marchelle, Ernie Jr., and Lenee.

Nora’s journey through life was marked by her dedication to family and business. She was a proud member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a devoted member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Nora found joy in reading, coin collecting, and investing in land, a reflection of her sharp mind and entrepreneurial spirit.
