
Vera Faye Ford passed away on February 10, 2022, at the High Plains
Retirement Village Memory Care Unit in Lakin, Kansas from complication
of Alzheimers. She was born on August 12, 1925, in rural Wichita County
Kansas to Ralph G. and Elizabeth L Kiefer Riddiough. She was the oldest
of 9 children and grew up and attended schools in the Carwood Community
of Northwest Wichita County. She graduated from Wichita County High
School in 1944 and immediately started work for the United States Postal
Service in Leoti, Kansas.
Vera married Glenn H Ford and they celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Born to this union were Glenda Ford, Leoti, KS; William (Beverly) Ford
of Andalusia, AL and Terri (Jeff) Ridder, Leoti, KS. Other survivors
include two brothers – Milton (Velda) Riddiough, Scott City and Robert
(Glenda) Riddiough, Smithville, GA; one sister – Bonnie (Ron) Weaver,
Tumicari, NM; seven grandchildren – Silkor Schillings, Samantha
Ratzlaff, Dustan (Mandy) Ridder, Garrett Ridder, Gage (Debbie) Ridder,
Evan Ridder and Aaron Ridder; and six great-grandchildren – Saigen and
Katia Schillings, Tucker Ratzlaff, Aaliyah, Joaquin and Theo Ridder.
She was a homemaker and avid caregiver and loved her family dearly.
The family also resided in Greeley County, Kansas, for several years
where Vera built and ran the Tastee-Freez in Tribune, Kansas. She was
an active member of the local VFW Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a
great-grandson-Joshua Ratzlaff, brothers – Lee, Joe, Ralph Jr and
William and one sister – Marjory Peine.
Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Leoti, Kansas
on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 11:00 am. A private family Inurnment
will take place at a later time at the Beulah Cemetery. Memorials in
lieu of flowers made be made to the Museum of the Great Plains or the
Carwood Community Cemetery Fund, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of
Garden City, Kansas.
