HAYS – The TMP-Marian softball team opened their season with a pair of lopsided run-rule wins. The Monarchs defeated Russell 22-2 and 18-2 to start the season 2-0.
Game 1: TMP-Marian 22, Russell 2 (3 innings)
The Monarchs scored 19 runs in the second inning to blow the game open. Brooke
Koeningsman had three hits and drove in four. Addison Watson also drove in four
runs.
Tegan Gottschalk pitched all three innings with three strikeouts and three walks.
The Monarchs took advantage of eight walks and six hit batters.
Game 2: TMP-Marian 18, Russell 2 (3 innings)
After Russell struck for a run in the top of the first, the Monarchs answered
with 12 in the second then added six in the third.
Jaci VonLintel and Addison Watson both had three hits. VonLintel and Brooke Koeningsman both drove in three runs.
Tegan Gottschalk walked three but did not give up a hit and picked up her second win of the day.
