Albertine Marie Garcia, 78, died December 21, 2020, in Haysville,
Kansas. She was born November 15, 1942, in Damar, Kansas to Lawrence and
Rita (Brin) Newell. She was the oldest of nine children. She and her
siblings grew up in Damar, where she attended school. On May 16, 1964,
she was united in marriage to Jesus Louis Garcia in Ellis, Kansas.
Being the oldest in the family, Albertine took on the role of
helping raise the younger ones. It is not surprising that she was a lady
who helped people in need. She always had a smile for everyone and
could make people feel safe. She loved cooking, which she undoubtedly
learned from her mom at an early age, and with her own family of sons,
she cooked a lot. She enjoyed teaching anyone who would be in her
kitchen to cook. Marlon hopes that someday, he will be able to cook fish
as delicious as she did.
Summertime was her favorite season and she so looked forward to the
Graham County Fair. She loved going to browse the exhibits and of
course the ice cream stand. Putting up with six active and ornery boys,
she was a walking “angel”. Her prayers were very powerful and she was
called upon many times for prayer intentions.
Albertine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jesus; two
brothers: an infant and Leland Newell; sister, Louise Schmidt; and son
Mark. Leaving to mourn her passing are five sons: Marlon, Scott, Tim,
Travis, and Jason, all of Wichita; brothers Harold Newell (Joyce) of
Concordia and Dale Newell of Hill City; sisters Kathy Brown (Lyle) of
Hill City, Lois Sumner (Pat) of Texas, Carmen Simms (Donald) of Sedan;
13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She will be missed but we know she will be watching over everyone just like she did when she was with us.
