⚾ Tigers drop middle game at UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Fort Hays State baseball team dropped game two of its series against the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Saturday, losing 14-3. The teams have split the first two games of the season, with the rubber game set for noon (11 a.m. MT) on Sunday.

The Mountain Lions jumped out to a fast start, clubbing two home runs and pushing across six runs in the bottom of the first. UCCS scored in five of the six innings it came to bat.

A Derek Woolwine solo home run helped the Tigers pull within 6-1 in the top of the second before FHSU tacked on two more in the top of the seventh. Garretson Cook came in to score on an error before Antonio Avila drove in Dylan Salcido with an RBI single.

UCCS outhit the Tigers 13-6. Woolwine had two of FHSU's six hits. Cody Bruss (0-1) took the loss after allowing eight runs in one-plus innings of work. Kaleb Carpenter, Evan Piwowarski and Luke Berry all worked out of the bullpen.
