SALINA – The Hays High boys golf team is headed to the 5A State Tournament. The Indians shoot a 327 and finish third at Tuesday’s regional at the Salina Municipal Golf Course. Hays finished 27 strokes behind second place Salina South and 32 back of regional champ Maize South. They finish seven shots ahead of fourth place Hutchinson.
Copper Johnson and Caleb Thompson both had rounds of 79 and finished in eighth and ninth place respectively. Braiden Bickle fired an 84 and placed 17th while Braxton Banker was 19th with an 85.
Maddox Zaysongkham was the regional champ with a 5-under-par 67. He outdistanced Lakin Matthews of Maize South by three strokes.
