Braxton Banker shot a 12-over-par 84 and is was the lone Hays High golfer to advance to Tuesday's second round of the 5A State Tournament in Sand Creek Station in Newton.
TMP-Marian’s Heuer Brungardt shot a 7-over-par 78 and qualified to the second round at 2A at Mariah Hills in Dodge City. Brungardt is tied for 10th.
Both of Plainville's golfers advanced in 2A. Noah Brewster who shot a 12-over-par 83 and Jayden Morris who was 14-over-par 85. Austin Carroll of Ellis was 15-over after day one and also qualified for round two.
Hill City is sitting in sixth-place after day one.
