Ronald Ray Hager

Ronald Ray Hager, formerly of Norton, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at the age of 84 years at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas. Ronald was born November 14, 1936, outside of Dellvale, Kansas to his parents Harold E. and Golda M. (Heller) Hager. He attended school at Dellvale and later graduated in Clayton with the class of 1954.

Ronald enlisted into the Army National Guard in 1959 and was discharged with the rank of SSG E-6 in 1964. On January 31, 1960, Ron married the love of his life, Helen G. Krauss in Norton, Kansas. Together they raised three children: Barry Hager (Karen) of Sedgwick, Kansas, Rhonda Karst (Richard) of Rush Center, Kansas, and Penny Otter (Stephen) of Sheridan, Wyoming.

Ronald worked hard building two businesses in Norton, Norton Appliance and Furniture and Norton Hardware and Appliance. Ron did everything from electrical, plumbing, appliance repair and carpet installation. In his spare time, he farmed and raised livestock which he dearly loved.

Ron retired, spending time tinkering out at his "doghouse" as he would call it and enjoying his eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He enjoyed playing pitch and reminiscing with his dear friends as well.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Golda and sisters: Imojean Hoyt, Gladys Everett, Vanetta Olson and Phyllis Dewey.

Survivors include his wife and children; grandchildren: Wesley and Wyatt Hager; Katherine (Karst) Storie, Rayna Karst and Caleb Karst, and Brittany (Otter) Holmes, Andrew Otter and Alec Otter; his great-grandchildren, Addeline Otter and Zion Holmes. Surviving siblings include Phillip Hager and wife Mildred of Ark City, KS, Doris Strayer and spouse Lee and Mary Youngquist and spouse Jon, both of Beaver City, NE.

Graveside inurnment services will be held 10:00 am Friday, July 23, 2021, at the Norton Cemetery, Norton, KS.
