American Legion Post 109 with limited means continues to be buoyed above challenges through the great volunteer efforts of Post 109 Commander William Workman (right) and Terry Tucker (left), Sons of the American Legion, veterans, and volunteers. After completing the restoration of the Natoma American Legion Post Hall, a former WWII Army Air Corp barrack, another project has recently been completed. Setting next to the hall were shade trees and the former 1800 black smith shop. Citizen Herb Hachmeister donated the deteriorating building and property to the Post. Clearing of the property was provided by a grant from the Osborne County McFadden Family Charitable Trust. With the property cleared, a gazebo and parking lot will enable veterans, their families, children, youth, and community a quiet place for celebrations on the High Plains of Kansas.

The Natoma American Legion continues hosting events at the post with the recent National American Legion Commander visiting Kansas from the National headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Legion's continuing priority is to reduce the rate of veteran suicide through "Be The One" initiative. For information contact Post 109 Commander William Workman, 785-224-7993.
