Midwest Energy on Saturday reported a flurry of scam telephone calls in the area.

"Hundreds of Hays residents received calls from scammers today, posing as Midwest Energy and threatening disconnection in 30 minutes if immediate payment wasn’t made by store-bought money card," Midwest Energy spokesman Mike Morley said. "Midwest Energy reminds customers that they don’t accept money cards as a form of payment.  Additionally, the company does not perform disconnections on weekends. If you ever receive a phone call demanding payment for your energy bill, hang up and call Midwest Energy at (800) 222-3121.”
