Junior Eagles swept in season opener

HAYS – The Hays Eagles 17U baseball team was swept by the Salina Outlaws in their season-opening doubleheader Wednesday evening at Larks Park. Salina rallied with two runs in the top of the seventh inning and won game one 3-2 then scored 10 in the fifth to take the second game 15-5 in five innings.

The Junior Eagles are off until June 16 th when they host Salina at Hays High School.

Game 1: Salina 3, Hays 2
The Eagles scored two in the first and led 2-1 before giving up two runs in the top of the seventh.

Hays got a couple or runners on in the bottom of the seventh, but a strikeout and ground out to short ended the threat.

Carson Spray had two of the Eagles three hits and drove in both runs with a first inning single.

Blake Schmidt  was the tough-luck loser on the mound. He allowed seven hits but no earned runs in the complete game outing with six strikeouts and two walks.

The Eagles committed five errors in the game including two in the seventh.

Game 2: Salina 15, Hays 0 (5 innings)
Salina scored 10 runs in the fifth to blow open a 5-0 lead for the run-rule victory.

The Eagles were held without a hit and committed five errors.

All eight of Hays’ baserunners reached on walks.
