The Ellis County Historical Society has appointed Katie Annett as its new interim director.

She was hired to replace Lee Dobratz, who resigned as of April 13.

Annett, 27, has been a curator with the museum since 2018.

She has a degree in American studies from the Hillsdale College in Michigan.

Before moving to Hays, she worked at Greenfield Village, which is part of the Henry Ford Museum, and Crossroads Village, which was a living history print shop.

"I love the hands on, working with people and showing people how things back then worked," she said. "I think showing people rather than telling is a good resource."

Annett was brought to this area doing research on one of the community's former sheriffs. She said she has a great interest in Hays' Western heritage.

Annett has experience with fundraising through events in her previous museum roles, but does not have grant-writing experience.
