A Disaster Household Delivery distribution is set for Monday, giving those in the community affected by COVID access to a variety of foods.
Boxes are available for pick up beginning at 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m, or until boxes run out at the Unite Free Store, 200 E. Eighth.
Items to be distributed include; peanut butter, apricot halves, sliced pears, pistachios, oranges, pork loin, orange juice, sliced carrots, who frozen eggs, fruit and nut mix, frozen chicken fajita strips, frozen chicken fillets and frozen sliced turkey breast.
"The Disaster Household Delivery is a pretty unique opportunity in that the food can go out to any family regardless of income that has been affected by COVID," said Unite Ministry Leader Brandon Nimz.
Unlike commodity distribution, the Disaster Household Delivery has no requirements, other than recording how many people will use each box in the home.
"A lot of individuals now are faced with kids at home who aren't receiving meals in the same way that they would have," Nimz said. "This opportunity is built specifically to reach out and assist them to get through."
It is up to each state to administer the commodities program, he said. In Kansas, the Department of Children and Families uses volunteer organizations to distribute goods.
"Our ministry picked up the Hays regional commodities distribution," Nimz said.
They distribute goods to 34 food banks across nine counties, he said.
Future commodity distribution times can be found at the Unite Hays website.
