TOPEKA — Kansas State Treasurer Jake LaTurner this week announced the appointment of Hays resident Tyler Hallagin of Schaffer and Associates to the state’s 529 Education Savings Investment advisory board.

The board serves as a watchdog over nearly 6 billion dollars of investments within the Kansas LearningQuest 529 portfolios. The board meets semi-annually to discuss the State’s 529 investment performance and provides input into the direction of the State’s education savings program.

“We are pleased to add Tyler as the newest member of this important investment advisory board. As a resident of western Kansas with experience in the financial services industry, Tyler adds great value to our board by bringing to the table his added perspective on the rural and agricultural community he serves,” LaTurner said. “We know he will be a great asset to our board discussions as we work together to meet the needs of residents throughout our state.”

Tyler grew up in Hays and graduated from Thomas More Prep-Marian in 2007. He attended Fort Hays State University and graduated with a bachelor’s in marketing in 2012. Tyler has been an active member of the Hays Area Young Professionals and is currently a financial adviser with Ameriprise Financial.
