Hays firefighters responded to a grass fire in the ditch of Chetolah Creek at 6:59 p.m. Tuesday.
The thick white smoke originated about a block north of the 13th Street bridge.
According to Fire Chief Ryan Hagans, the small fire was put out with one small line using tank water.
Firefighters could also be seen pulling apart trash that was engulfed by the smoke.
Emergency responders were on the scene for 30 minutes, Hagans said. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
