John Arlyn Drews

Born December 9, 1963, passed away April 27, 2020, at University of Kansas Health Systems Pawnee Valley Campus, surrounded by his daughters and family after his courageous battle against ALS.

He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Kenneth and June Dempsey Drews. He grew up in Maryland. After graduation he moved to Kansas to help out his grandma Marie.

On December 5, 1987 he married Kay Rouse at Larned, they later divorced but remained friends; she survives.

He was an active member in the Larned community, working for the City of Larned for thirty years where he retired as the superintendent of the waste water plant and served for the Larned Fire Department for twenty-five years, retiring as a captain. He had a passion for playing guitar, sprucing up his Mustang for local car shows, and enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing.

He is survived by daughters Kayla (Dustin) Patterson, Heather (Mitchell) Smith; step-son Brandon (Hypatia) Rouse; seven grandchildren: Ty, Brayden, McKinzie, Madison, Aubree, Tate, and Hylee; brothers Tom (Vickie) Drews, Joe (Emily) Drews, Jay (Heather) Drews; sisters Darcy Drews and Donna Drews Knott; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and June Drews, Uncle Gale, and grandma, Marie.

Cremation has taken place and service will take place at a later date in Garfield Cemetery with firefighter honors.
