Helen L. Truan, age 90, of Gorham, Kansas died Sunday, April 26, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.  She was born June 5, 1929, in Great Bend, Kansas to Hobert “Hobe” and Alvina (Foster) Haggard.  She married Floyd F. Truan on July 19, 1952, in Dodge City, Kansas.

She was a school teacher in Ellis and Russell Counties, including Bunker Hill, Hope Valley Country School, Mount Brokow Country School, with many years at Gorham Grade School, and a total of 39 years teaching.  She retired in 1996.  Her family moved to Gorham when she was young and she attended Gorham Grade School, Gorham High School and earned her Degree in Elementary Education from Fort Hays State College. 

Helen was a very active member of the Gorham Community Church, she helped her husband on the farm, enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family.  

Survivors include her husband, Floyd F. Truan, of the home; two sons, Kent Truan and wife, Pam, Gorham, KS; Jeff Truan, Gorham, KS; and one daughter, Sherri Truan, Gorham, KS; one brother, Bob Haggard and wife, Hania, Austin, TX; 6 grandchildren  and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.  

 Due to the COVID-19 virus, a private family inurnment will be at Winterset Cemetery south of Gorham, Kansas.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

The family suggests memorials to the Gorham Community Church or Winterset Cemetery Fund in care of the mortuary.
