Chiefs select LSU RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire with 32nd overall pick

The Kansas City Chiefs selected LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire with the 32nd pick of the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday night.

In just one season as a starter, Edwards-Helaire finished his career with 2,123 rushing yards and added another 595 receiving yards. He ranks No. 15 in school history in career rushing yards and holds the LSU single-season record for receptions by a running back (55).

Edwards-Helaire helped the Tigers go 15-0 last season and win the 2020 National Championship.  He put together one of the best seasons for a running back in LSU history as he ran for 1,414  yards and added 453 receiving yards on 55 receptions. It was the third most rushing yards in a season in school history.

The Chiefs have only four more draft picks over the final six rounds as they have one each in the second, third, fourth and fifth rounds.

Edwards-Helaire was the only running back selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. Round two will begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday.
