Sherman County reports first case of coronavirus

GOODLAND — Sherman County Health Department is announcing the first case of presumed positive coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Sherman County.

Testing sent to the Nebraska Medical Center lab has identified the positive case.

The case involves a female, age range 65-74, with out-of-state travel history.

Sherman County Health Department has already contacted anyone who may have been in contact with this person.  This individual is isolated at home and doing well. No further information about the patient will be released.

There is currently no evidence of community spread of COVID-19 in Sherman County.  

KDHE has released guidelines for quarantine and isolation of travelers who visited locations in the United States where large numbers of people have contracted the disease.

Sherman County has been prepared for positive cases of novel coronavirus and will continue to work alongside local and federal public health and medical partners in addressing the potential spread of the virus.

THE HEALTH OFFICER HAS ALSO STRONGLY RECOMMENDED:

•        People avoid non-essential trips and stay home to the extent they can.

•        If you do need to go out in public, ensure you maintain six feet from other people and it is recommended that you wear a mask in public.
