Dwane 'Swede' W. Johnson

Dwane “Swede” W. Johnson of Hoxie, Kansas passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at the ComfortCare Home in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 68. He was born on November 12, 1951 in Lindsborg, Kansas to Ervin W. and Dagmar I. (Anderson) Johnson. He grew up on the family farm. Dwane attended a one room school, Mount Hope, through eighth grade and Lindsborg High School graduating with the class of 1969. During his four years of high school, he was a member of Future Farmers of America. After graduation from high school, Dwane attended Salina Area Vocational Technology School for two years. During his two years at Salina VoTech he was a member of the basketball team.

Dwane married Martha Norman on August 7, 1971 in Salina, Kansas. They moved to Hoxie, Kansas where they made their home. They were blessed with a daughter and two sons. Dwane was employed by Hoxie Implement for forty-five years. During that time, he worked for them as a mechanic, shop foreman, in the parts department, and as a truck driver. He retired from the Implement dealership in 2016. Dwane was a Volunteer Fireman for forty-three years for Sheridan County Fire Department and served as Assistant Fire Chief for many years. He loved being able to serve his community.

For fun and relaxation boating, camping, fishing and hunting were at the top of Dwane’s list. He especially enjoyed deer hunting with his family. Deer hunting was really a family affair, with family coming the first weekend of Deer Season and others staying for two weeks. He loved being and working outside in his garden or yard. Family was very important to Dwane. If a family member or friend needed a helping hand, he was always willing and ready to help. Dwane never knew a stranger and loved talking with everyone he met. The most important thing in his life was his family. He loved them dearly.

Dwane is survived by his loving wife, Marty, of the home, Hoxie, Kansas; sons, Curtis Johnson and wife Megan of Kansas City, Missouri and Christopher Johnson and wife Sara of Hoxie, Kansas; daughter, Janine Foth & husband Travis of Peabody, Kansas; brother, Dale Johnson and wife Rebecca of Bonners Ferry , Idaho ; sister, Colleen Lundstrom and husband Dave of Russellville, Missouri; grandchildren, Austin Sanders, Marcus Sanders, Nicole Sanders, Michelle Johnson, Trevor Foth (Rachael, Kortney Foth, Kayla Page, Jasmine Russell, Isabelle Parsons, Ethan Brousseau , Levi Brousseau , and Justin Heikes (Emmy); and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Dameron, Nathaniel Foth, Gabriel Foth, RosaLee Heikes, and Paxtyn Heikes

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Dagmar Johnson.

A Celebration of Life Service is being planned and will be announced when final date is decided upon. Dwane was a hardworking man who enjoyed his life. He loved his family, and they will miss him dearly. They will think of him with love today, tomorrow, and forever. Dwane’s memory will be their keepsake with which they will never part. God has Dwane in his keeping; friends and family have him in their hearts.
