Grow Hays and Rep. Barb Wasinger, R-Hays, today announced that Kansas Secretary of Commerce David Toland has approved the application for the Heart of America Development Corporations Rural Housing Incentive District (RHID) in eastern Hays for the development of workforce housing.
"We are very thankful to David Toland, Kansas Secretary of Commerce and Representative Barb Wasinger for their expeditious turnaround of this application," said Doug Williams, executive director of Grow Hays. "Given the economic challenges we are currently facing in our community, this housing development will be a critical component to our recovery."
“It is very important that we all work together to get projects as important as this RHID moving. I am grateful for the help of Secretary Toland who immediately acted on my request to expedite the RHID,” said Representative Wasinger.
She added that Toland told her this was exactly the type of project the state of Kansas was wanting to promote.
The next step in the process is the creation of a development plan and development agreement.
Final approval for the development is anticipated to take place in July.
