Lavona 'Shorty' Kay Rose

Lavona “Shorty” Kay Rose, age 79, of Garden City, Kansas passed away April 3, 2020, with her family by her side in Garden City. 

Shorty was born July 5, 1940, in Goodland to the late Alexander and Della May (Gotchall) Miller.  She was raised in Goodland where she graduated in 1958 as a proud Goodland Cowgirl.  Shorty moved to Garden City in 1976 with her husband, Danny Rose and family. 

Shorty enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, she loved going to casino’s, playing pool (which she was very good at, working in her yard on her flowers, playing phase 10, putting puzzles together, and most of all listening to Elvis Presley.  Shorty loved camping with her family as well as spending time at their lake house in Glen Elder, Kansas. 

Shorty is survived by her husband, Danny of Garden City; sister, Darlene Bauman (her best friend) of Goodland; brother, Alex “Chip” Miller of McAlester, OK; five children: Diana Russell of Garden City; Carrie Sue Jennings of Topeka, KS; Kevin (Stephanie) Butler of Garden City; Billy (Lora) Butler of Iowa Park, TX; Pamela Butler of Garden City; two stepdaughters, Shelly Bedker of Wichita, KS; Sharla Rose of Wichita, KS; 20 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren, 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alexander and Della (her HERO) May Miller; brothers, Ronnie and Richard; and granddaughter, Kayla McDonald.
