Buhler teacher, La Crosse alum hired as new Roosevelt principal

The Hays USD 489 school board hired Olivia Rice as the new principal of Roosevelt Elementary School during its meeting Monday night. 

Olivia Rice will take the place of current principal Paula Rice, who resigned effective at the end of the school year. The two are not related.

She earned her bachelor's degree in human ecology at Kansas State University.

After graduating from KSU, she worked as an MTSS program coordinator at the elementary level in Manhattan for one year.

In 2016, she moved to Hutchinson to work as a family and consumer science teacher at Hutchinson Middle School.

In 2018, she took a position at Buhler High School to teach culinary arts.

In 2019, she received her master's of education degree, and she is finishing her second master’s degree in building leadership from Fort Hays State University.

Her husband is Kerby Rice, who works at Herrman Physical Therapy as a physical therapist in Hays. They have an 8-year-old son, Brady, and a 7-month-old daughter, Rosalynn.

The board also approved other administrator and director contracts below.
