LaVern Doris Huddleston, 94, Alexander, Kansas, died Friday, March 20, 2020, at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas.
LaVern was born April 2, 1925, in Alexander, Kansas, the daughter of Peter Casper and Elsa E. (Ebert) Boese. She was a lifelong resident of Alexander, Kansas. A 1943 graduate of Alexander High School, Alexander, Kansas, she received her teaching certificate from Fort Hays Kansas State College, Hays, Kansas. She was a teacher in Bazine, Kansas, and a substitute teacher in Alexander, Kansas, before her retirement.
She was a former member of the Community of Christ Church, and Golden Keys, both of Alexander, Kansas.
“The Best Fried Chicken in Rush County” was the accolade from fellow Rush Countians. Every year, LaVern would purchase 250 – 300 chickens from Claude Schwab. LaVern was a excellent cook and baker. She made sure no one ever left her house hungry.
On November 13, 1949, she married Alton W. Huddleston at the RLDS Church, Alexander, Kansas.
Survivors include: her husband, Alton Huddleston, Alexander, Kansas; one son, Larry Huddleston, Alexander, Kansas; one daughter, Kathy Coen (Jim, Osage City, Kansas; two grandchildren, Justin Coen (Amy, Topeka, Kansas, and Jenny Hageman (Brad, Pilesgrove, New Jersey; three great grandchildren, Harper Coen, Jackson Hageman, and Sam Hageman; and one brother, Don Boese (Janet) Hoisington, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Ilene Hanhardt.
Because of the current challenges that the world is facing at the present time, this is a private immediate family only, funeral and interment, with no visitation.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to the Alexander Fire Department, Alexander, Kansas, or the American Diabetes Association.
