RUSH COUNTY —One person died in an accident just before 6 a.m. Thursday in Rush County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2013 Toyota Camry driven by Richard Murray, 59, LaCrosse, was traveling on U.S. 183 two miles north of La Crosse.
The Toyota struck broadside a 2001 Ford Taurus driven by Abubakar Kaba, 40, Great Bend, that was disabled from an accident minutes earlier with a semi after Kaba lost control of the vehicle, swerved into an oncoming semi and came to rest partially in the southbound lanes of the highway. Both vehicles came to rest on the shoulder and caught fire.
Kaba was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported Keithley Funeral Home. EMS transported Murray to Hays Medical Center.
The KHP did not have seat belt usage information.
