WaKeeney Police Department
In an effort to continue to provide services to the City of WaKeeney, the department is implementing changes at the the WaKeeney Police Department, the department said in an announcement this week.
The announcement is below:
We ask if you have an emergency that needs reported, as always call 911.
If you have a non-emergent situation that needs an officer’s attention please call us on the administrative line, that number is 785-743-5711. Officer' will take as much information over the phone to take your report and determine if any officer needs to come out and physically see what the issue is take a report or papers.
This for the public and officer's safety.
We will not be doing any ATV permits at this time.
As for public coming into the Police Department, only if necessary, you will be allowed in.
There will be a screening process before you enter.
An officer will take your temperature, ask you some pertinent travel questions, and evaluate you for any respiratory symptoms you may be displaying.
Officers will be wearing rubber gloves and masks when coming into contact with the public. This is for officer's safety and the public's safety.
All in person inmate visits are currently suspended through the Sheriff's Office.
They do offer video visitation, there are kiosks in the cells and the inmates can visit via the internet with their family and friends.
If you have questions about this, please call the Sheriff's Office at 785-743-5721 and they will answer your questions about the service.
As I stated above, access to the building will be very limited.
Putting money on an inmate’s books will be done online only. The kiosk in the lobby will be unavailable for use until further notice.
If you need help accessing the website to add money to an inmate’s account, call the Sheriff's Office at 785-743-5721.
These decisions were not easily made, but ultimately necessary in keeping the residents of the City of WaKeeney and the staff of the Law Enforcement Center.
The policies will remain in effect until further notice, we will be reevaluating the above changes often.
The WaKeeney Police Department would like to thank everyone in advance for their cooperation in this matter.
