ELLIS — The Ellis USD 388 school district announced Wednesday it plans to meet Thursday to discuss with faculty and staff a plan to move forward with the rest of the semester.
"I think there has been some confusion around the state on the status of school as we move forward," Superintendent Corey Burton said in an announcement on the district's website. "We will be providing for the education of our students, but it will be in a much different manner."
Following the announcement by Gov. Laura Kelly that all school buildings would be closed for the semester, the state has also been working on how to proceed.
"The KSDE Continuous Learning Task Force has been working diligently since Monday to help provide school direction on how best to continue serving kids," Burton said. "We will receive this information later (Wednesday). This information will be shared with staff once it is received."
The district will host a video conference meeting Thursday to update and discuss the ongoing situation.
"Please understand that this will take time," Burton said. "We have a great staff, one that will be working very hard to meet the educational needs of our kids."
Following the district's spring break, he said staff will be working.
The district is also working to receive a waiver to offer students grab and go breakfast and lunch.
"I know that there are tons of questions that you might have," Burton said. "We still have questions of our own. Just know that we will be working hard to do what is best for our kids."
