Mabel J. (Dechant) Riedel

Mabel J. (Dechant) Riedel, age 86, of Walker, Kansas, died Friday, March 13, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.  She was born November 29, 1933, in Hays, Kansas to Joseph and Anna (Speier) Dechant.  She married Francis J. “Frank” Riedel on September 3, 1955, at Hays, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on December 4, 2016.

     She was a homemaker and a CNA  at St. John’s Rest Home, Victoria, and at Cedar View Care Center in Hays. Mabel grew up in Antonino and Hays, and was a graduate of Girls Catholic High in Hays.  She enjoyed traveling, reading and was active in parish work.  She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Christian Mothers, both of Walker, Daughters of Isabella and V. F. W. Auxiliary, both of Victoria. 

          Survivors include two sons, Glen Riedel and wife, Tammy, Salina, KS; Terry Riedel and wife, Gina, Walker, KS; two daughters, Donna Burgess and husband, Craig,  Tammy Jacobs and husband, Donovan, both of Hays, KS; one brother, Walter Dechant, Hays, KS; one brother-in-law, Francis King, Denver,  CO; nine grandchildren, Kyle Riedel (Renee, Travis Riedel (Annie, Nathan Burgess (Kelsey, Jordan Burgess, Parker Riedel, Layton Riedel, Kinsey Riedel, Jarret Riedel, Connor Jacobs; six great grandchildren, Maggie, Roxy and Mason Riedel; Kinley and Kyron Burgess; and Cambri Burgess.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, William, Gene, Richard Dechant; six sisters, Josephine Legleiter, Alice Legleiter, Marcella Zimmerman, Adeline Zimmerman, Eleanor King and Stella VonFeldt.  

     Mass of Christian  Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Walker, Kansas.  Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Walker, Kansas.

 A vigil service and V.F.W. Auxiliary memorial service with rosary by the St. Ann’s Christian Mothers and Victoria Daughters of Isabella will be at 7:00 P.M. Monday, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Walker, Kansas. 

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, and from 9:30 to 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, all at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Walker, Kansas.

The family suggests memorials to St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Walker, Kansas.
