NORTON — The Kansas Department of Transportation has reopened U.S. 281 in Osborne County between Portis and the north U.S. 24 junction. The 3.5-mile section has been closed since March 2025 for reconstruction.
While the highway has reopened to unrestricted traffic, final paving and striping work is scheduled to take place this spring and will not require closure of the roadway.
King Construction of Hesston is the primary contractor for the $18.9 million project, which is being completed through KDOT’s Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program, known as IKE.
