Edward 'Ed' Duane Swartz

Edward “Ed” Duane Swartz, 67, Alexander, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021.

Ed was born September 8, 1953, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Henry Edward and Norma Jean (Clark) Swartz.  A lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas, he was a 1971 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, and attended Barton County Community College, Great Bend, Kansas

Ed enjoyed farming, dirt-moving, hunting, playing basketball, watching various sports, and spending time with his friends and family. He loved listening to oldies music and playing outside with all his children, nieces, and nephews.

Ed met Louise Casey through a co-ed softball team in La Crosse, Kansas. The couple was married on April 23, 1983, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Survivors include:  his wife, Louise Swartz, Alexander, Kansas; his children, Staci Kiewel (Daniel), Great Bend, Kansas, Emily Swartz, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Tanner Swartz (Codie), Olathe, Kansas; his granddaughter Makenzie Kiewel, Great Bend, Kansas; siblings, Susan Bailey (Ernie), Patti Johnson (Mike), and Steve Swartz (Loretta); brother-in-law, Lyle Seltmann. Ed is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and many close and lifelong friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Diana O’Brien; brother in law, Stan O’Brien; and sister, Cindy Seltmann.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 4, 2021, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.  A rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. 

Funeral service will be Thursday, August 5, 2021, at 10:00 A.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with Deacon Mark Gildon officiating.  Interment will be in the Alexander Cemetery, Alexander, Kansas. 

A luncheon will be held at the Rush Center Township Hall, 220 Union Street, Rush Center, Kansas, immediately following the interment.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to The Lewy Body Dementia Association.
