Emery J. Meis, age 73, died Sunday, March 8, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. He was born June 29, 1946, at Hays, Kansas, to Joseph P. and Helen (Vonfeldt) Meis.
He grew up in rural Ellis County and attended the Lost Canyon School and later received his diploma from Ellis County Schools, and he also completed several art classes at Wichita State University and Fort Hays Sate University.
He worked in the oil fields and then moved back to Hays in the 1990’s. He owned Emery’s Nursery & Landscaping and worked for Hays Greenhouse for a number of years. He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Catholic Campus Center both of Hays. He has been a resident of Via Christi Village since 2014.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Meis-Rivas and Tony Nunez, Holcomb, KS; Judy Meis-Cole and Jon Haag, Dighton, KS; two brothers, Leroy Meis, Victoria, KS; Kenny Meis and wife, Jeanie, Catharine, KS; one sister, Edie Braun and husband, Wayne, Hays, KS; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 13, 2020 at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919E. 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas. Burial will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Catharine, Kansas.
A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.
Visitation is from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, and from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. Friday, all at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays
The family suggests memorials to the Meis family in care of Mary Meis-Rivas.
