Margaret 'Maggie' E. (Heier) Zerr

Margaret “Maggie” E. (Heier) Zerr passed away Monday, March 9, 2020, at the Sheridan County Health Complex Long Term Care, Hoxie, Kansas at the age of 95. She was born in Park, Kansas September 27, 1924 to the late John and Mary (Heisler) Heier. She grew up on a farm south of Park, Kansas in Gove County. Maggie attended school in rural Gove County and graduated from 8th grade. Shortly after graduation, her mother passed away, and she stayed home to care for her younger siblings and the home. On February25, 1946, Margaret Heier was united in marriage to Bernard N. Zerr at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park, Kansas. They made their home on a farm north of Park and were blessed with five children, two boys and three girls. After Bernard’s death, Maggie moved to Hoxie in 1975 where she lived until her death. She was a devout member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, of Park, Kansas, and the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church of Hoxie, Kansas and loved her Lord Jesus Christ.

Shortly after moving to Hoxie, Maggie went to work as cook for USD 412 Elementary School. She loved her work and retired from the job when she was seventy years old. Maggie was a great cook and baker. One of her specialties was her delicious cinnamon rolls. She grew a large garden canning much of the produce as well canning fruit and meat. She also loved to sew and made clothes for her children and in later years, rugs out of double knit material. When Maggie wasn’t working, she loved to play cards. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Alter Society, St. Frances Sodality, and of Park VFW Auxiliary. She always had a smile on her face. Most of all, Maggie loved her family. Each of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren were loved and cherished by her.

Maggie is survived by her children, Ralph Zerr and wife Norma of Park, Kansas, Bernita Wagoner and husband Ron of Great Bend, Kansas, Alberta Cameron of Colby, Kansas, and Eugenia Delzeit of Loveland, Colorado; 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Zerr; parents, John and Mary Heier; son, Robert Zerr; granddaughter, Tamera Wagner and great-granddaughter, Kristen Trickle. brothers, Anthony Heier, Nicholas Heier, George Heier, Theodore Heier, and Fidelis Heier; and sisters, Clara Uhrich and Ida Schwarzenberger.

A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Saturday ,March 14, 2020, 10:00 A.M., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Park, Kansas. Interment will follow the service in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Park. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020 at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie, Kansas from Noon until 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:30 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. with the Vigil and Rosary Service start at 6:30 P.M. Maggie was a woman of faith who enjoyed and loved her family with all her heart. If you listen with your heart, you’ll hear all her love around you and feel her arms holding you tight. When it is your turn to join her, she will greet you with a smile and welcome you home.
