TMP girls end season with sub-state loss to Phillipsburg

BELOIT – The TMP Lady Monarchs saw their season come to an end Friday with a 40-32 loss to the Phillipsburg Panthers in the sub-state semifinals in Beloit.

TMP’s Meghan Hamel scored six first-quarter points on a pair of three pointers and Phillipsburg’s Taryn Sides to added eight points in the quarter giving Phillipsburg an 8-6 lead. Emilee Lane added a pair of free throws to tie the game at eight through one quarter.

Phillipsburg outscored TMP 9-2 to start the second quarter and build a 17-10 lead. Sophia Balthazor answered with a three-pointer to trim the deficit to four. Phillipsburg led by five at 22-17 at the break.

In the third quarter Phillipsburg extended their largest lead of the game to nine only to see TMP put together a 10-0 run to end the third quarter and begin the fourth quarter capped off by back-to-back Emilee Lane field goals that put TMP up 32-30.

But TMP’s lead was short-lived as the Panthers outscored TMP 10-0 over the final 3:30 of the fourth quarter on their way to a 40-32 win.

Game highlights

Sides led all scorers with 24 points.

TMP’s Emilee Lane finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Monarchs finish the season 10-13.

Phillipsburg improved to 19-3 and they will take on Norton who upset Beloit Friday 49-47.
