BELOIT – Lucas Lang’s three-point buzzer beater as time expired lifted the TMP-Marian Monarch boys to a 69-67 win over Hoisington Thursday in Beloit to advance to the sub-state championship game on Saturday.

The first quarter of Thursday’s sub-state semifinals matchup was a back-and-forth affair that saw four ties and eight lead changes before Hoisington score the final four points of the quarter and led 15-13.
After three more lead changes to open the second quarter Hoisington put together a little 5-0 run to lead 22-19 but TMP answered right back with a 10-0 run. Ryan Stoecklein hit a pair of three pointers and Carson Jacobs added a pair of field goals as they Monarchs built a 29-22 lead.
Ryan Stoecklein knocked down four three pointers in the first half and scored 14 of his 15 points in the first half.
The Monarchs lead by seven several times in the third quarter and led by six at halftime at 34-28.
In the third quarter TMP lea by as many as 12 as Carson Jacobs scored eight of his game-high 24 points in the quarter to put TMP up 55-43 at the end of the third quarter.
Hoisington opened the fourth quarter on a 9-3 run to cut the TMP lead to six at 58-52.
The Cardinals started sending TMP to the line and while the Monarchs struggled at the line Hoisington closed the gap to two and then with 8.7 second left Bralen Thompson drained a three from the top of the key to give the Cardinals the 67-66 lead.
Following at TMP timeout the Monarchs inbounded the ball to Jackson Schulte who raced passed his defender and into the front court and the lane. When the defense collapsed on Schulte, he kicked it to the right corner for Lucas Lang who drained a three-pointer to beat the buzzer as TMP earned the 69-67 win.
Game Highlights
TMP’s Carson Jacobs scored a team-high 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Hoisington’s Mason Haxton scored a game-high 27 points and Drew Nicholson added 20.
TMP improves to 18-4 and will take on the top-seed Beloit Trojans Saturday in the sub-state championship game after they knocked off Norton 67-64.
