Velma I. Brent

Velma I. Brent, 99, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2020, at the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen, SD.  Velma was born on January 28, 1921, in Osborne County, KS to Carl & Angie (Storer) Britt.  She was one of several children.

Velma grew up on the family farm and attended country school.  She graduated from Harlan High School. 

Velma met & married DuWayne Brent on September 14, 1941, in Alton, KS.  To this union, two children were born.  Their first farm was in Portis, KS.  In 1970, they moved back to Velma's family farm.  In 2010, they moved to South Dakota to be near their daughter, Sheryl.  

When she was little the local pastor took Velma to church every Sunday and at the age of 9, Velma accepted the Lord.  She was a member of the Lawrence Creek Wesleyan Methodist Church for 25 years.  Later Velma joined the Osborne Free Methodist Church and was a faithful member for 34 years while they lived in the Osborne, KS area. Velma was active on committees within the church & taught Sunday School.  She enjoyed her farm animals, fishing, cooking and sewing.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, DuWayne in 2013; son: Galen Brent; daughter-in-law: Cheryl; granddaughter: Bailey Bauer; sisters: Lucille Strain & Wanda Roberts.

Velma is survived by her daughter, Sheryl (Randy) Bauer; grandchildren: Bryan (Stacy) Bauer; Shane Bauer; Megan Bauer; Gabriel (Beth) Brent; Charles (Kristen) Brent; 9 great-grandchildren & 1 great-great grandson; nieces & nephews.
