Lifelong Goodland, KS, resident Leonard Vern Young, 83, passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Topside Manor in Goodland.
Leonard was born on May 8, 1936, in Goodland to Vernon and Vida (Murray) Young. He was one of three children. Leonard attended school in Goodland and graduated from Sherman Community High School in 1954. From 1955 to 1957, Leonard served in the United States Army Reserve, and from 1957 to 1961, he served in the United States Air Force.
On July 19, 1958, Leonard married Wilma I. Peters in Goodland. To this union, four children were born; Janet, Joy, Steve and Robert.
Leonard was a farmer all his life. He was a member of the Calvary Gospel Church in Goodland, and enjoyed hunting and drinking coffee with his coffee buddies.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother Gale Young, one sister Dorothy Cibolski and three grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Wilma of the home in Goodland, two daughters; Janet (Chuck) Redlin of Goodland, KS and Joy (Wayne) Beckner of Wichita, KS, two sons; Steve (Darcy) Young of Weatherford, TX and Robert (Daisy) Young of Vernon, CO. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services for Leonard were held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 10:30 AM MT at the Calvary Gospel Church in Goodland with Pastor Dan Bielfuss officiating. Interment followed in the Goodland Cemetery in Goodland.
Visitation was held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland.
