Norton wins 3-2-1A state wrestling tournament

HAYS – The Norton Blue Jays had three wrestlers bring home individual state championship and two more finish fourth as they claimed the 3-2-1A state wrestling tournament Saturday in Hays.

Sophomores Darius Sheilds (106 pounds) and Kolton Field (120 pounds) and senior Cole Amlong (170 pounds) all claimed their first state titles on Saturday. Camdyn Unterseher (132 pounds) and Judson Wiltfong (220 pounds) earned a fourth-place finish. Norton finished with 120 team points.

Hoxie also had three individual champions and came in second as a team with 113 points.

Sophomore Drew Bell (126 pounds) and freshman Derek Johnson (132 pounds) earned their first championships. At 138 pounds Dylan Weimer claimed his second straight title, after winning the title at 132 pounds last year.

Plainville’s Jordan Finnesy became a two-time champion Saturday winning the title at 182 pounds. He claimed the 170 pound as a junior. Plainville’s Logan Normandin finished third at 113 pounds and Kyle Werner was fifth at 170 pounds.

Wyatt Pedigo defended his title at 195 pounds and won he third straight title.

At 160 pounds Ellis; Kyle Pfeifer placed fifth and Trego’s Dillon Dunn finished third at 220 pounds.
