An eight plus minute scoring drought turned a four point game into a eighteen point lead for the Dodge City as the Red Demons beat Hays High 60-31 on Friday night.

The Red Demons used an 8-1 run to take the early lead.  Hays never led but cut the game down to a single point at 8-7 with six straight points.  It would be the closest Hays would get all night.  Trailing 20-15 in the second the Indians failed to score on four straight possessions and would not score until the third quarter.  Dodge City outscored Hays 14-2 in the second.

Highlights

Hays trailed 35-20 midway through the third but turned the ball over on three straight possessions and Dodge City's lead pushed above twenty where it remained for most of the night.

Aleyia Ruder scored a game and career high 18.  Dodge City put three in double figures led by Kisa Unruh with 12.  She was held scoreless by Hays in Dodge City.

Coach Kyle Porter

Hays falls to 6-14 on the season and finishes Western Athletic Conference play at 1-7.  Dodge City is now 16-4 and 6-2 in the conference for a second place finish.

Hays will go on the road to Andover Central next Wednesday as the #15 seed in the west half of 5A.

Hays showed no effects from their road trip and win in Abilene just twenty-four hours prior as they run away from Dodge City 47-25.  The victory claims a share of the Western Athletic Conference crown with Great Bend.

The closest the game was all night was early at 4-3 following a Dodge City three pointer.  It would be the Red Demons only points of the first quarter.  Hays put the next 18 points of the game on the board for a 22-3 lead early in the second quarter.

Hays was never threatened rest of the way.  The Indians held Dodge City to single digits in each of the four quarters.  The Red Demons scored three in the first, seven in the second, eight in the third and seven in the fourth.

Highlights

Hays built their lead to 28 in the third quarter on two occasions and was able to play everybody in the scorebook.

Dylan Ruder led the Indians with 14 points.  Cooper Scheck hit four three pointers for the Red Demons.

Hays improves to 14-6 on the year and finish 7-1 in the conference.  Dodge City falls to 4-16 and 1-7.

Coach Alex Hutchins

The Indians will be the five seed in the west half of 5A and play next Tuesday and host Arkansas City.
