Tressie Bailey Rogers

Tressie Bailey Rogers was the sixth of 10 children, she was born February 14, 1924 near Genoa, Co to C. Earl Bailey and Ida Young Bailey. She passed away February 24, 2020 at the age of 96.

When she was seven, her family moved to the Dresden area near the North Prairie Dog Creek, 8 miles north of Selden. She attended North Valley grade school and high school and then graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1941. Tressie was a lifelong member of The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, now known as the Community of Christ, the headquarters is in Independence, MO. She was baptized in the Creek in 1933.

On March 7, 1942, Tressie was united in marriage to W. A. “Bud” Rogers and to that union, two sons and one daughter were born. They made their home in Selden. They celebrated 72 years together in 2014. She was a devoted homemaker to not only her immediate family but was the home base for all the Bailey and Rogers’ families. Tressie was especially known for her homemade pies, bread and German Chocolate Cakes.

In her earlier life, Tressie and her sister, Millie, entertained the community many times with their singing and yodeling. She won numerous contests for her talent and most recently she would yodel for the residents at the Good Samaritan Society in Oberlin.

She leaves to mourn her daughter, Shirley (Gary) Emigh; sons: Roy (Debra) Rogers and Terry (Sue) Rogers; brothers: Durward (Dode) Bailey and Sam Bailey Young; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud; sister, Mildred Brown; brothers: Melvin, Virgil “Bill”, Clifford, Donald, Ernest “Buzz”, and Elzy Ray Bailey and grandsons: Roger Emigh and Tate Roy Rogers. She will be terribly missed until we meet again!

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Pauls Funeral Home, Oberlin. Burial will follow at the Selden Cemetery. Visitation 2-7:00 pm Friday, February 28, 2020 at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 5-7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Society of Decatur County.
