Kerry Wasinger submitted her declaration and filing fee to run for the position of 23rd Judicial District Judge on Tuesday.

Wasinger, a resident of Hays, has been practicing law in Ellis County and the surrounding area since her admission to the Kansas Bar in 1999. Wasinger started her legal career with Kansas Legal Services and has also worked for Child Support Enforcement, private practice, Fort Hays State University and Department for Children and Families.

In a press release, Wasinger said community involvement is important to her, noting she has volunteered in the community over the years from school organizations, church groups and organizations such as United Way of Ellis County, Wonder Women League, and Soroptimists, among others.

“I believe I have the proper skills, integrity, personal and professional temperament, qualifications, experience and a strong commitment to public service," Wasinger said. "Based upon my legal knowledge and my experience representing a wide range of clients on many different cases on both sides of the courtroom, I believe I would make a fair judge that the people of Ellis, Gove, Rooks and Trego counties would be proud to have.”

Wasinger grew up in rural Missouri on a family farm and has resided in Ellis County since graduating from Washburn University School of Law in 1999. She is married to her husband, Steve, and they have two children, Kyle and Emma. Steve grew up in Ellis County and the family decided that western Kansas was a perfect place to raise their family.

The primary is scheduled for Aug. 4 and the general election is scheduled for Nov. 3.
