A strong first half was undone by a cold shooting second half as the Hays High Indians fall short to Garden City 54-38 on Friday night. Aleyia Ruder scored the Indians first nine points of the night and pushed Hays out to a 9-2 advantage. Tasiah Nunnery scored the next 10 points for Hays taking the lead back from Garden City at 19-18.
The two team swapped the lead during the second quarter with the Buffaloes leading at half time 24-22. The Indians shot nearly fifty percent at half time but could not keep the pace. Garden City did keep their shooting sharp and built up a double digit lead on a 16-5 third quarter.
Highlights
Hays did have an opening in the fourth quarter but made just three of eleven free throws in the final five minutes and two of ten shots.
Nunnery finished the night with 15 points while Ruder added 13. Garden City's Keyhanna Turner scored a career high 21 while freshman Amaya Gallegos scored 13.

Hays falls to 5-13 on the year and 1-6 in the Western Athletic Conference. Garden City moves to 10-9 and 4-3.
Boys
Jason Krannawitter had a birthday he will not soon forget. The junior buried a three pointer as time expired to send Friday's game into overtime. In the extra four minutes Hays outscored Garden City 12-1 and kept themselves in a tie atop the Western Athletic Conference standings with a 59-50 victory.
Hays scored the first ten points of the game and led the entire first half. The Indians lead was never less than four points and pushed their advantage back to a game high ten with thirty seconds to go in the second quarter.
Garden City's Azavier Williams scored at the buzzer to cut the lead down to eight and ignite a third quarter explosion for the Buffaloes. A 15-2 run for Garden City grabbed the lead away from Hays and built a 35-30 advantage with 2:30 to go in the third.
Highlights
Despite the big run Hays trailed by just three going to the fourth quarter. Hays took possession of the lead at 40-39 midway through the final quarter. Garden City took the lead back less than thirty seconds later and held the advantage until the final seconds.
Garden City was called for a travel against full court pressure with 6.6 seconds remaining. That is when Krannawitter stepped up with the late game heroics. In the overtime Hays outscored Garden City 10-1 by making eight of nine free throws and their only field goal attempt

TJ Nunnery scored 16, Jason Krannawitter and Dalyn Schwarz each added 11. Azavier Williams scored a game high 17.
The Indians move to 12-6 on the year and remain tied with Great Bend in the conference standings at 6-1. Garden City falls to 9-10 and 2-5.
The Indians are back home on Tuesday to play Dodge City on Senior Night.
