Great Bend sweeps TMP

The Great Bend Panthers girls and boys basketball teams picked up a doubleheader sweep of the TMP basketball teams Tuesday at Al Billinger Fieldhouse.

Girls: Great Bend 42, TMP 38

The TMP Lady Monarchs jumped out to an 8-2 lead with Emilee Lane scoring six of the first eight points for TMP. But the Monarchs were held without a field goal for nearly 11 minutes while Great Bend outscored TMP 6-0 to tie the game at eight at halftime.

The only field goal in the second quarter came with four second left in the quarter on a Great Bend layup by Jenna Mauler that tied the game at eight.

Megan Hamel knocked in TMP’s first three of the game to open the second half and a pair of Lane free throws gave TMP a 13-8 lead.

Down five, Great Bend outscored TMP 10-0 to build a five-point lead in the third quarter. A lead they would never give up.

The Monarchs were able to close the deficit to one twice in the third quarter and made four straight three pointers down the stretch in the fourth quarter but Great Bend made just enough free throws on their way to the 42-38 win.

TMP’s Emilee Lane finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds, her fifth career double-double.

Great Bend’s Jenna Mauler led all scorers with 14 points.

TMP drops to 6-12 on the season.

Boys: Great Bend 80, TMP 68

The Great Bend Panthers opened the game on a 13-4 run and never looked back on their way to an 80-68 win.

Great Bend built a nine-point lead to open the game but the Monarchs were able to briefly close the gap to four before the Panthers built the lead to eight at the end the quarter at 19-11.

A Mason Robbins three-point play for TMP cut the Great Bend lead to five at 19-14 to open the second quarter but Great Bend answered with a 16-6 run to take a 35-22 lead. Great Bend led 37-27 at halftime.

Great Bend extended the lead to 15 a couple of times in the third quarter before taking a 16-point lead into the fourth quarter.

In the final frame the Monarchs closed within 10 a couple of times as Great Bend earned the 80-68 win.

Game highlights

TMP’s Jackson Schulte finished with a team-high 14 points. Lucas Lang, Ryan Stoecklein and Carson Jacobs added 13 each.

Great Bend’s Alex Schremmer scored a game-high 31 points.

TMP falls to 13-4.

The Monarchs will host Stockton on Friday.
