Area Game of the Week: Northern Valley vs. Western Plains-Healy

RANSOM- A special Tuesday edition of the Area Game of the Week took us to Ransom, where the Western Plains-Healy Bobcats were set to do battle with the Northern Valley Huskies

The girls game was first up. The two teams fought back and forth for most of the first half, but the Bobcats were able to pull away thanks to 9 first half points by junior Jobi Roemer. They led 23-11 at the break.

The Bobacats maintained the lead in the 3rd quarter and led 34-22 heading into the final frame. 

Northern Valley made several comeback attempts, cutting the lead to as little as 8, but in the end Western Plains-Healy was victorious 46-32.

Jobi Roemer led all scorers with 13 points. Tabitha Williams had a double-double with a dozen points and 13 rebounds.

Sophomore Andromeda Hausserman led the way for the Huskies with 12 points and 8 rebounds.

Northern Valley fell to 2-18 on the season. Western Plains is now 7-11.

The boys game was next up, and it had no shortage of excitement. Northern Valley led 12-7 after a quarter. They extended the lead to 16- 7 early in the second quarter.

The Bobcats then went on a 14-2 run to take a 21-18 lead. It looked like we would go to halftime that way, buy Alex Vanpatten of Northern Valley hit a 3 at the buzzer to tie it at 21 heading into the half. 

Northern Valley came out strong in the third quarter, scoring the first 6 points of the half. They led 37-30 heading into the final frame.

The Huskies really ratcheted down in the final quarter, holding the Bobcats to just 3 points en-route to a 52-33 win. 

 Senior Alex Vanpatten and sophomore Brady Sides both finished with 11 points for Northern Valley. Junior Brenden Sammons had 10, all in the second half.

Bobcat junior Bryan Buffington finished 1 board away from a double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Senior Moises Gomez led all scorers with 13 points.

Northern Valley is now 13-5. They finish the season with a non-league game at Hoxie on Tuesday.

Western Plains-Healy falls to 6-9 on the year. They'll travel to Weskan for their final game before regionals.
