Strong second half lifts Tiger women past Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Fort Hays State women’s basketball team shot 62-percent in the second half including 8-of-15 from three and avoided their first three-game losing streak since 2014 with an 86-55 victory over Lincoln Saturday afternoon at Jason Gym. The win also secured a spot into next month’s MIAA Tournament for a ninth year in a row.

The Tigers (18-6, 9-6 MIAA) made only one of their first 12 field goal attempts and shot only 28-percent in the first half and led 29-23 at halftime. They quickly pushed the lead to 11 in the third quarter before Lincoln (3-21, 0-15 MIAA) closed the gap to five with 1:59 left in the quarter.

FHSU scored the final nine points of the quarter to go up 14. It was part of a 27-5 run over seven and-a-half minutes which pushed their lead to 26.

Whitney Randall led four Tigers in double-figures with a career-high 21 points. Jaden Hobbs and Belle Barbiere both scored 14. Barbiere added 10 rebounds and Hobbs had a career-best nine assists. Kacey Kennett added 11 points and moved past Tatyana Legette and Kris Ostoff into 10th on the FHSU all-time scoring list.
