Two Alabama residents were arrested after a brief chase that ended west of Hays around noon Friday.
The chase began following a Kansas Highway Patrol stop of a black Hyundai with Georgia tags traveling eastbound near Interstate 70 mile marker 150, according to KHP Trooper Tod Hileman.
After the trooper made contact with the driver of the vehicle, they fled, traveling east on I-70 at around 11:52 a.m., he said.
The vehicle exited onto Old U.S. 40 traveling south, then east toward Hays. Stop sticks were deployed by the Ellis County Sheriff's deputies west of Hays and the vehicle came to a stop on Old U.S. 40 at Eighth Street around noon, Hileman said.
The driver, Jackie Ray Carter, 45, Alabama, and passenger, Donald Andrew Neely, 30, Alabama, were then taken into custody without further incident.
Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of flee and attempt to elude law enforcement and drug possession with intent to distribute, Hileman said.
