Delores Marie (Goetz) Deines

Delores Marie (Goetz) Deines, age 90, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, Long Term Care in WaKeeney. Delores was born in Park, Kansas on July 10, 1929, to Edmund and Helen (Gallagher) Goetz.

Delores grew up in Park with her 9 siblings and graduated from Park High School. She met her husband LaVerne (Deacon) in 1948, and they were married in 1950, at which point they moved to WaKeeney. They lived on the farm south of town until Deacon’s passing in 1987. Delores spent her time caring for her husband and children, working as a proofreader for the Gove County Advocate, as a caregiver, and working at the salebarn in WaKeeney. She enjoyed square dancing with LaVerne, bowling, and playing cards, but if she wasn’t winning, “you’re not playing right.” Delores was a member of the EHU, The Fraternal Order of Eagles # 3774 Auxiliary, and was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and the University of Kansas Jayhawks.

Delores is survived by her son, Randall Deines (Cheryl) of Stilwell, KS; daughters Joleen Heckman (Rick) of Reno, NV, Leanna Mohr (Ernie) of DeSoto, KS, and Stacey Hodges (Kelly) of Shawnee, KS; brothers Bill Goetz (Laura) of Oakley, KS and Gary Goetz (Donna) of WaKeeney, KS; sister Patsy Radcliff of Kenton, Ohio; grandchildren Trudy Tilton (Dustin, Jeni Slavin, Jake Heckman (Victor, Cole Deines (Elizabeth, Ryan Hodges (Aly) and Katie Hodges; great-grandchildren Treverton Tilton, McKailey Slavin, Danny Slavin, and Ella Deines.

Delores was preceded in death by both parents; her loving husband LaVerne, brothers George Edmond “Bud” Goetz, Virgil “Jim” Goetz and Charles “Mike” Goetz; sisters Helen Maxine “Sean” Leiker, Elsie Bittel, and Marlene Fahey.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 21, 2019, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, November 22, 2019, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, WaKeeney, with Pastor Jon Anderson officiating. Burial will be held at Zion Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Zion Cemetery fund or Trego Hospital Endowment Fund for use at the Long-Term Care. Donations may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 N 12th, WaKeeney, KS  67672.
