HAYS – The TMP-Marian girls and boys basketball team split a Mid-Continent League double-header with Smith Center Tuesday inside Al Billinger Fieldhouse.
Girls: Smith Center 59, TMP 48
The Smith Center Lady Red used a 23-2 run to end the first quarter and begin the second quarter as they put an end to an eight-game losing streak against TMP with a 59-48 win.

TMP got out to a quick start and took an 8-2 lead on back-to-back Megan Hamel and Sophia Balthazor three-pointers but that lead was short lived.
Smith Center finished the first quarter one a 14-0 run and had built a 25-10 lead with five minutes to play in the first half.
The Monarchs forced three steals in the press and Jaci VonLintel had a pair layups, part of an 8-0 run as TMP cut the deficit back to seven at 25-18.
Smith Center answered right back with an 8-0 run sparked by back-to-back Ashlyn Long three points giving Smith Center the 33-18 lead at the break.
In the third quarter Smith Center led by as much as 17 at 37-20. TMP cut the deficit the Smith Center lead to eight at the end of the third quarter at 40-32. Emilee Lane scored six of the 12 points during the 12-3 run.
Smith Center built the lead back to double-digits in the fourth quarter before TMP closed within eight on a Lane three-pointer at 56-48. Smith Center the three free throws as they picked up the 59-48 win.
Smith Center’s Tallon Rentschler scored a game-high 29 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
TMP’s Emilee Lane scored a career-high 21 points and added nine rebounds.
Smith Center improved to 9-5 and 5-1 in the MCL. TMP drops to 5-9 and 2-3 in the MCL.
Boys: TMP 59, Smith Center 29
TMP’s Mason Robbins scored the first four points of the game and Brady Kreutzer scored the next five points helping the Monarchs build an 11-0 lead. Smith Center was held without a field goal for the first five minutes of the game and TMP led 16-2 at the end of the first quarter.
The Monarchs outscored Smith Center 25-10 in the second quarter to build a 41-12 lead at the break.
TMP led by as much as 35 in the third quarter and with a running block went on to the 59-29 win.

Brady Kreutzer scored a career-high 12 points. Ryan Stoecklein also added 12.
Smith Center’s Trenton Colby led the Redmen with 12 points.
For TMP it was their 12th straight win as they improved to 12-1 and 5-0 in the MCL.
Smith Center drops to 4-8 and 1-4 in the MCL.
TMP will travel to Norton on Friday.
